JUBA, MAY 27, 2023 (THEJUBAMIRROR NEWS. ) – The breakaway South Sudan United Front/Army faction led by General Dickson Gatluak Jock will with in the next two weeks dispatch a high-level delegation led by him to Juba to meet senior government officials to discuss a home-made peace agreement.
The statement extended to Thejubamirror news this morning, SSUF/A Nairobi Declaration spokesman Philip Deng Kuol said they were preparing to meet a government delegation which is already in Nairobi to hold talk on the planned visit by SSUF/A to Juba.
“A high-level delegation from the South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) will arrive in the capital Juba in two weeks’ time for a short visit. The delegation will be led by Chairman Gen. Dickson Gatluak Jock Nyuot and will comprise 15 members from both the political and military wings of the SSUF/A,” he said.
The official said that the visit is aimed at building trust and confidence between the SSUF/A and the government of South Sudan, and that the delegation will meet with government dignitaries, including President Salva Kiir Mayardit, to discuss ways to end the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.
The SSUF/A is one of the many armed groups that have been fighting the government since early 2018.
In January, Dickson Gatluak led some senior members of SSUF/A including the deputy chairman in a coup against Paul Malong, the leader of the group, accusing him of failing to fight the government and to engage the international community owing to sanctions imposed on him.
“Pursuant to the ‘Home-Grown Initiative’ under the SSUF/A Nairobi Declaration, this visit does not shut the doors to dialogue with the regime in the unspecified date and venue,” Deng added.
