The Red Card Movement’s leadership formally informs you about a series of peaceful protests planned for July 9, 2024, at the DR. John Garang Mausoleum in Juba, South Sudan. The Red
Card Movement, a coalition of civil society organizations and concerned citizens, is organizing this event, inspired by the Gen Z Movement in Kenya. Therefore, the Red Card Movement takes this opportunity to call for a nationwide protest in South Sudan and abroad regarding the current state of affairs, including the following critical issues: Poor governance in the country. Serious economic crisis, exemplified by the exchange rate of 100 US dollars to 400 SSP. Rampant corruption by the SPLM government and its cronies. Mismanagement of security in the country. Illegal detention of citizens by the National Security under Akol Koor. Theone-manshowelectionspurportedlytobeheldbytheSPLMinDecemberof2024. As Red Card Movement, we demand the following: Immediate resignation of President Salva Kiir and Riek Machar as they have failed to provide leadership to the country. . A temporary civilian government of six months to oversee election. Ceasing all oil production in the oil fields.
Complete overhaul of the National Security Services, with Akol Koor resigning immediately. Arrest of all current cabinet ministers, with Michael Makuei Lueth topping the list as he is a threat to South Sudan’s national security and stability, and they should return all the monies they have stolen from the public coffers. Postponement of the purported election. Release of all political detainees in the country. Dissolution of the TGONU Parliament and Legislative Assembly. Promulgation of a new constitution.
Credible census and new elections in 18 months’ time. We expect the protests to commence at 9:00 a.m. South Sudan’s time and conclude by 1700. A weekly protest will follow, taking place every Tuesday and Thursday across all cities in South Sudan. We anticipate a significant number of participants from various parts of the country, all of whom are committed to conducting the demonstration peacefully and within the bounds of the law. We kindly request that the South Sudan Police Services provide the necessary security and traffic management to ensure the safety of all participants and the general public. Furthermore, we ask for your assistance in creating a conducive environment for the expression of our democratic rights.
We have taken measures to ensure the protests are orderly and non-violent. We are also prepared to comply with any reasonable conditions or guidelines set forth by your office to ensure public safety and order, as long as those conditions do not infringe on citizens’ rights.
Furthermore, we call upon all South Sudanese to turn up in large numbers across major towns in South Sudan and agitate for change. We know that the regime will kill us, but we have no option at this point in time but to fight for our country. We must reclaim our country from the SPLM-kleptocratic government. We look forward to seeing you on July 9, 2024. Lastly, the international community and human rights organisations should closely monitor any human rights abuses that the regime inflicts on our citizens. The International Criminal Court of Justice should document, transfer, and prosecute those who perpetrate mass killings and violence against innocent citizens. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to your cooperation in facilitating a peaceful and orderly protest.
Yours sincerely,
The Red Crad Movement’s leadership is in place.
