Juba, October 9, 2025 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on the newly appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Dr. Paul Nang Majok, to champion reforms and professionalism within the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF).
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony held on Thursday in Juba, President Kiir urged the new army chief to maintain the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and neutrality in the military’s operations. He cautioned the forces against political interference, emphasizing that the army’s primary duty is to protect the nation’s sovereignty and stability.
“The army must remain a national institution that serves the people of South Sudan, not political interests,” Kiir said.
The President further tasked Dr. Nang with improving the welfare of service members and implementing long-term reforms aimed at modernizing the SSPDF. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen professionalism and enhance discipline across all organized forces.
Dr. Nang Majok’s appointment marks a renewed push by the government to reform the security sector and ensure the army plays a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in the country.
