JUBA,— The Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO) accused the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) on Thursday of torturing and executing its members, including protection officers detained with First Vice President   for more than 6 months in Juba capital .

The group said Cpt. Luka Gathok Nyuon died in Jamus military detention in Juba after being subjected to torture and denied medical care. SPLA-IO officials claimed several other officers remain gravely ill from inhumane treatment, with medications either withheld or thrown away by prison personnel.

“The SPLA-IO condemns this inhumane and unprofessional treatment of prisoners of war by the SSPDF in grave violation of international human rights and humanitarian law,” SPLA-IO spokesperson Col. Lam Paul Gabriel said in a statement

A photo released by the SPLA-IO appeared to show Nyuon in detention before his death, alongside an earlier image taken before his arrest.
