In a press statement, Ayii Duang Ayii, President of the South Sudan Business Community and Employee Federation, called on the government to clear what he described as huge debts owed to his company, Supreme Airlines, and other international business partners. He urged the Ministry of Finance to honor a $43.9 million out-of-court settlement signed in January 2025, which committed the government to monthly payments over a two-year period.
Ayii revealed that the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Justice had acknowledged the legitimacy of his claims, prompting him to withdraw a lawsuit filed at the East African Court of Justice. However, he now accuses the government of reneging on the agreement, stating that not a single payment has been made despite mounting pressure from international aircraft suppliers.
The agreement was signed by senior Finance Ministry officials and endorsed by the former Minister of Justice, with final approval from Finance Minister Marial Dongrin.
This comes as Ayii faces separate legal struggles with the National Prison Service over the closure of his private kidney hospital, a dispute reportedly linked to land ownership.
He has warned that if the government fails to fulfill its obligations, he will consider pursuing the matter in other international courts. The Ministry of Finance is yet to issue an official response.
