WHY ARE THE ANYANYA HEROS AND HEROINES FORGOTTEN BY THE SPLM GOVERNMENT?

Date: 25th October 2022 )  Hon. Abel Allier can be referred to as the father of tribalism in South Sudan. This is the part which worries me whenever I hear that he met the President of the Republic.

When he was the president of the executive Council, the exact things repeating themselves today occurred.

Dinka ethnic group dominated the entire government system, Land grabbing among others.

When Hon.Eng.James Tambura took over, he enforced the rule of law.
His unique and much appreciated leadership unanimously resolved to adopt a federal-like system of governance which is today referred to as KOKORA.

Under KOKORA, everyone was supposed to go to his/her region for self rule and administration.
This is when resources were equally distributed among the regions of Equatoria, Bahr-El-Ghazal and Upper Nile. It is said that only Equatoria used its given resources for some infrastructural establishments while the leaders of other regions looted their shares.

This explains why only Equatoria region looks relatively developed compared to other regions.

Consequently, our brethren from the then dominant ethnic group (in the government) felt targeted by the KOKORA.

Some Dinka elites mobilzed themselves against the system which saw them evicted from the other regions.
This was so clear from its inception but one wonders how this small group convinced everyone including our then elders and leaders to believe the formation of the SPLM/A was a national cause, instead of the tribal.

Initially, the Equatorians took long to join the SPLM/A movement. When those funding the movement surfaced, then other regions decided to be a part of the new political dispensation since it was heading towards a possible success by then.

While in the bush, the Equatorians were targeted as a revenge for the Eviction from the Equatoria region.

Those days, discriminatory songs like the “Nzenge who were messing people’s orderly lifestyle are gone” dominated RADIO JUBA.

In a nutshell, many Equatorians were deliberately assassinated; the worst one being in the genocide of 1991-1992 in Juba by the Khartoum government as had been planned by late Dr. John Garang De Mabior as per say.

To conclude, the SPLM/A was established to primarily fight the ANYANYA ADMINISTRATION which brought about KOKORA.
Many educated Equatorians were assassinated during SPLM/A struggle because Dr. John Garang was afraid of them.
This created leadership vacuum and can explain why we do not have many generals from Equatoria today, compared to other regions.

When this tribal movement succeeded, it resumed what KOKORA had dealt with.
Unfortunatly today, Kaya, Yei, Nimule, government institutions and other areas are all dominated by the Dinka ethnic group, thus the return of the very system KOKORA dealt with.

To confirm that history is indeed repeating itself, most of our leaders and intellectuals have been convinced that the SPLM AGENDA IS NATIONAL AS OPPOSED TO THE TRIBAL AGENDA IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN FROM ITS INCEPTION DESPITE OF ITS VIVID NEGATIVE EFFECTS TODAY.

All what SPLM/A claimed it was fighting for such as federalism and protecting Jonglei Canal, etc were all abandoned.

The night of 8th July 2011, the Parliament was to unanimously adopt federalism as the system of governance which the President and his team did not want. This drama continued until the National Security was involved, who went and forced the Members of Parliament to adopt the Centralised system that gave all powers to the President. This coercion to adopt the current system occurred few minutes to midnight.
Had midnight reached, there wouldn’t be any independence celebrations on the 9th of July since there could be no country called the Republic of South Sudan without a Constitution.

Be informed that the SPLM/A history is very bitter, it visualises any genuine narrative as a promotion of tribalism. However, it is not tribalism but the bitter truth.

TO ANSWER THE QUESTION WHY THE ANYANYA HEROS & HEROINES HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN DURING THE SPLM GOVERNMENT, the answer is entailed above.
They are considered as enemies who initiated what made the Dinka people suffer during the era of KOKORA. Therefore, there is no room to accord honour and recognition to the enemies.

ADVICE:
Continue documenting and updating those lists.
I am sure any future government without SPLM will prioritise the recognition of the ANYANYA HEROS and HEROINES.

It is worth noting that the Dinka as a community was not consulted. Just like the Jieng Council of Elders, those who converged to establish the SPLM/A movement were independent in their tribal project although they were able to convince most people, beginning with their community.

I decided to pen down all the aforementioned truth as my personal contribution towards the reinstatement of the rule of law and the need for the SPLM GOVERNMENT in Juba to audit its journey from inception to date.
It is criminal for few elites to misrepresent an innocent population by its wrongful and deliberate acts. Your style of leadership has caused many ethnic groups to see the beloved and respectful Dinka community as one which only wants to grab other people’s lands, dominate any setting, kill anyone opposing attainment of their aspirations among many other vices. This is a total misrepresentation which must stop!

What excites me is the emerging of some Dinka intellectuals, who are condemning what is happening in the country. I urge others including all ethnicities to condemn the ongoing outdated leadership strategy.
The more we keep quiet, the more divided and unstable our country will become. Let us not sit down to witness few elders and the would be genuine leaders, drag this innocent generation of ours into the grudges of their time.

Let us forget the past and lay a good foundation on which the Republic of South Sudan can be built for all and by all South Sudanese.

With much love and desire for a united Republic of South Sudan,
