(Date: 01/August/202 )The Vice President for Youth, Gender, and Humanitarian Cluster, Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, said she entered into politics to play a “watchdog” role for the vulnerable group in the society.
While addressing movie lovers who graces screening of the movie – “No Simple Way Home”, Nyandeng talked about the long journey of the struggle for liberation and freedom – cited her contribution before and after the death of her husband, the late Dr John Garang de Mabior.
“After he (Garang) had gone, I took South Sudan upon myself…I continued to do politics not because I like it but because I want to be the watchdog of my people,” Nyandeng said.
She said this responsibility became real and heavy after she was sworn in among the vice presidents as required by the agreement.
“I found that something heavy was put on my head,” she emphasized.
Nyandeng explained some of the hard times she went through during the liberation as a wife of the comrades.
“You know when I was young and even when we were in the bush I used to carry water in the bucket and it gave me a problem on my neck,” she said.
As a mother of the nation, she returned home and also took part in counselling.
Nyandeng said she is not living as a widow but with a lot of strength to pursue her late husband’s visions.
“Because if I let my husband down, he will go down in history…I can do what I can to support our people in South Sudan as a state in his vision,” she promised
Akuol De Mabior who is the film director said the film is to encourage conversation and interaction.
“I hope that the film encourages conversation between generations…and people from different backgrounds.”
