Vice President Akol vows to fight for teachers

Vice President for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi Akol has vowed to work hard and fight on behalf of the teachers in the country.

Speaking during the launch of Back to Learning in Juba, Akol gave assurance that the government was committed to better the lives of teachers across the country.

“I want to assure the teachers that the government is committed to increase the educational budget and I will fight for it,” said VP Akol.

Akol also appealed to the teachers to work hard and ensure that the syllabus is completed in time for the candidates to be able to sit for their final examination.

Meanwhile the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Agok Makur revealed that the budget for the year 2020/2021 will focus on education.

“Awut, I want to assure you that we have discussed about education and please send your team for the budget workshop,” said Agok.

However, the Minister of General Education and Instructions Awut Deng Acuil affirmed that the Ministry is working hard to ensure that it receives what it deserves.

“We will work together to make sure that education gets the 15% of the budget it is supposed to get,” said Awut.

South Sudanese students in Primary Eight and Senior Four across the country are back to classes after almost six months of schools’ closure.

The Ministry of General Education and Instructions and its development partners have put in place the support needed for successful reopening of schools amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Measures such as washing of hands, checking of body temperatures and keeping social distance in the class have been put in place to enable the students get back to learning.

The reopening of the schools for candidates only falls under phase one and the opening of all schools for all classes across the country is expected in April 2021.
