The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan, Alain Noudéhou, is appealing for more than US$80 million in aid for the overall response to the flooding situation in South Sudan.

Over 600,000 people in Jonglei, Lakes, Unity, Uppernile and Central Equatoria states have been displaced been displaced by floods and some of the affected communities have fled to higher ground to escape the rising waters.

Mr. Noudehou says that out of the total appeal, 46 million US dollars is needed urgently to respond to immediate need of 360,000 affected people for the next two months.

He made the appeal at the end of his visit to Duk County in Jonglei and Panyijar county in Unity state on Thursday, where he met with people affected by floods, in the company of the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Heads of UN agencies and directors of NGOs operating in the areas.
