SPLM directs members to prepare for 2023 elections
The Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement (SPLM) Interim Secretary-General, Peter Lam Both has urged the group’s members to prepare for the forthcoming general elections in South Sudan.
According to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement, the country is expected to go to the polls in 2023.
Speaking during the party’s consultative meeting for interim state and administrative areas chairperson in Juba on Thursday, Lam revealed that the ruling party will hold its third convention before the end of June 2022 to prepare for forthcoming elections.
“Once we have completed our structures, we will embark on preparations for the third SPLM convention which should take place before the end of June 2022. That way, we will be ready for forthcoming elections in 2023,” Lam said
Lam urged its members to embark on mobilization of citizens to participate in the upcoming polls.
“We know that by establishing our grassroots presence, we will mobilize our people and state a robust registration from Bomas, Payams, Counties and State headquarters,” Lam stressed.
“From this process, we will know for sure how many members we have across the country. This will tell us definitively whether we have the votes we need to win forthcoming elections,” he added.
The Interim Secretary-General disclosed the ruling party will soon embark on mobilizing funds to facilitate its activities.
“I am not under the illusion that we don’t have financial resources to effect these challenges, but we have no choice. Money or no money, we must move forward from where we are now as SPLM. I am sure all of you are interested in winning the upcoming elections in the states,” he said.
