“Prophet” Abraham Chol remanded to Juba Central Prison, family demands for a fair hearing
Authorities in Juba have confirmed that controversial self-styled “prophet” Abraham Chol is now in Juba Central Prison following a delay in his court arraignment. Police spokesperson, Daniel Justin says the churchman refused medics who were to evaluate his mental health before trial.
According to the Director of Juba Prisons, Gen. Henry, Abraham Chol was remanded three days after his arrest in the night of 8th July 2021.
His family confirms that they are aware Abraham Chol is in Juba Central Prison but calls for speedy process for a fair hearing.
“We are aware Abraham Chol has been taken to Juba Central Prison. He only stayed for three days in the police cell. I visited him last Friday,” his brother Peter Makuol told Talk of Juba. “However we have not been told who the complainant is,” he said.
Police say Abraham Chol faces multiple crimes, the most serious of which is incitement.
“On July 9, he agitated the public, causing panic and dread among citizens. Because he announced earlier that the country’s leadership, including the President and his First Vice President will be changed. The message went viral on social media, and when we questioned him if he was told by God to make this announcement, he responded yes,” Police spox, Daniel Justin said.
Abraham Chol’s family asserts that their brother is mentally sound and appeal for a speedy process into his case to avoid prolonged stay in prison.
