Tension is high in Katiorin location in Baringo North after a chief’s office was torched last night by suspected illicit brew traders as a way of revenging the crackdown of illicit brew in the region by the area chief being assisted by Nyumba Kumi representatives.
The late night incident saw the office being razed down to ashes with nothing being salvaged including files which contained records of unsolved cases.
According to Muhamed Cheboi a village elder the area is rampant with second generation liquor which is being sold to residents in the presence of security officers who have been accused of doing nothing to bring to tame the upsurge of the illicit brew.
He revealed that they suspect that the ones who are behind the heinous act are those who were arrested over the weekend and released without being taken to court.
He wondered why bars within the area are still open even after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive of closing all bars in the country.
At the same time, he lauded the efforts made by Joseph Kulei the area chief in terms of eradicating illicit brew.
Two years ago a chief from the same location was killed in cold blood during a raid on illicit brewers.
Efforts to get a comment from Baringo North ACC Timothy Maiyo proved futile after he declined to address the media over the issue.
