South Sudan’s Parties to the peace deal are expected to form the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNA) within these coming weeks said President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

President Kiir made the remarks on Saturday during the signing ceremony of the Sudanese peace agreement in the capital, Juba.

“The structure and composition of the legislature at state level have already been agreed, and the coming few weeks will witness the formation of the National Legislative Branch of Government through the setting up of our bicameral legislature consisting of Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA)and the Council of States,” South Sudan’s head of state was quoted as saying.

Kiir noted that preparations are underway to graduate the Necessary Unified Forces, which is an important phase in the implementation of the Security Arrangements.

“We are also on the verge of passing out the first batch of our Joint Unified (VIP) Protection Unit that will be the nucleus of our future integrated South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF),” Kiir remarked.

He also undermined that the only outstanding issue is the need for the Parties to reach consensus on the allocation counties at the local levels.

“What remains is the agreement among the different stakeholders on the allocation of leadership positions in a handful of counties.”

“Once that is done, we will have completed the executive structure from national down to the local government level,” he added.
