Governor Aleu Ayieny gives Miraya FM journalist 72 hours to leave Warrap State
Warrap State governor, General Aleu Ayieny Aleu has given an ultimatum to a journalist leave Warrap state within 72 hours.
In a letter seen by Hot in Juba, Aleu gave Manyang Mayom, a journalist working for Miraya FM 72 hours to leave Warrap State.
“This letter serves to inform your institution that one of your personal particularly Mayang Mayom is considered to be participating in activities that jeopardize peace and stability in Warrap State and as such he is given only 72 hours leave Warrap State,” letter signed by Alieu reads.
Speaking to Hot in Juba, Manyang Mayom said that the ultimatum came as a suprise to him.
“I am surprised to get this from Warrap Governor. I have never done or said anything that will or has jeopardize peace and stability in Warrap State,” Manyang said.
South Sudan, which gained its independence in 2011, has a history of limiting freedom of the press, including harassment and arbitrary detention of journalists when authorities disapprove of their work.
