The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State Louis Lobong Lojore has nominated Salva Kiir Mayardit as SPLM Flag bearer in the upcoming general elections.

Lobong also nominated Salva Kiir Mayardit for the Chairmanship race of SPLM in the forthcoming National Convention.

Governor Lobong was addressing hundreds of SPLM Members, supporters and sympathizers at a Political Rally held in the State capital, Torit on Saturday.

Lobong’s pronouncement came as the country is expected to hold its general elections in 2023, a key condition in the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement.

Governor Lobong who doubles as SPLM Interim Chairperson in Eastern Equatoria State said they are ready for elections in 2023. He said the elections would help end the perpetual transitional periods that South Sudan has gone through since its formation.

Governor Lobong also requested SPLM to hold its National Convention in Eastern Equatoria State, saying the region had hosted some of the most successful events during the liberation days.

Lobong’s Statement was seconded by Mark Nyipuoch Ubango, who is a member of SPLM Political Bureau.
Both Comrades Mark Nyipuoch Ubango and Abuk Papiti Ayii seconded the call for SPLM to hold its forthcoming National Convention in Eastern Equatoria State.

He cited the 1994 SPLM National Convention held in Chukudum, that led to the reorganization of the Movement, Senior Officers Conference held in Moyo Sukun, that led to the capture of many areas in the country, the Civil Authority Conference held at New Kush and the Kings and Chiefs Conference held at New Site, that restored the unity of South Sudanese as they marched towards nationhood.

Towering SPLM stalwarts from the National Secretariat have been camping in Torit for the last one week to champion the reorganization of the liberation party in Eastern Equatoria State.

SPLM Interim Secretary General Peter Lam Both says Eastern Equatoria remains the bedrock of SPLM and that the party is proud of the sacrifices and commitment of its people to the cause of liberation of South Sudan since 1955.

Lam asserted that SPLM is working to meet the aspirations of the people through restoration of normalcy, to allow people embark on the journey of development.

The ruling Party says all is set to roll out the mobilization and registration processes in all the 8 Counties of Eastern Equatoria State.
