Council of States First Deputy Speaker appeals to SPLM-IO to release former SPLM-IO member from Ruweng detained in Unity State

First Deputy Speaker of the Council of States and Ruweng Administrative Area Member of Parliament, Mary Ayen has appealed to SPLM-IO leadership for unconditional release of senior soldiers from Ruweng who defected from SPLM-IO to SPLM party.

Speaking at recently concluded Governor’s Forum in Juba, Ayen asked SPLM-IO leader Riek Machar to talk to his ranks for speedy release of about eight soldiers from Ruweng who were in the ranks of SPLM-IO.

According to Ayen, the soldiers were arrested after some of their colleagues defected from SPLM-IO to SPLM forces and athey have been under detention at Ding Ding Barack in Unity State since 5th of November 2021.

“These military personnels were arrested in Ding Ding after some of their colleagues shifted allegiance to SPLM from SPLM-IO. I wonder why these people are detained and there is rampant defection across parties,” Ayen said.

The officers are Brigadier Beneral Choch Miyom Mayiik, Colonel Nyokrial Miabek Deng Captian Chol Miaper Deng Arop an Captian Miabek Gok Miabek among others.

Oil-rich Ruweng borders Unity State.
