JUBA, June 12, 2025 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to distribute tractors and farm equipment to farmers nationwide in a bid to boost food security and increase domestic agricultural output.
The directive followed a meeting with Unity State Governor Riek Bim Top, who briefed the president on the region’s agricultural progress and general security situation.
Kiir stressed the need to empower farmers to grow food locally, reducing dependence on imports. He said providing agricultural tools would improve food availability, support economic growth, and contribute to national stability.
Top reported that Unity State remains stable despite sporadic cattle raids. He noted that local leaders are engaging armed youth in peace dialogues aimed at encouraging disarmament and reintegration.
The president welcomed the report and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting both peace initiatives and agricultural development efforts in Unity State and across the country.
