Juba, April 6, 2025 — The South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) has clarified that a shooting incident at Giada Military Barracks in Juba was not politically motivated. In a statement released by SSPDF Spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, the public was assured that the gunfire heard around Suk Haradeb on Sunday evening stemmed from a personal dispute between soldiers.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at 5:59 PM on April 6, when Private Akol Agang Kuol opened fire on a fellow serviceman during an argument over a drink, killing him instantly. The rogue soldier also wounded three others in the crossfire before being subdued by fellow soldiers and members of the Special Forces, who responded with effective fire.
All injured personnel, including the shooter, were transported to Juba Military Hospital for treatment. The suspect is currently under armed guard and is expected to face trial before a competent District Military Court Martial following his recovery.
Maj. Gen. Koang urged the public to remain calm and continue with their daily activities, reaffirming that the incident was an isolated case and had no links to any political tensions or motives.
