March 30, 2025 In statement obtained by Thejubamiror News Desk The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) strongly condemns the deployment of five senior officers from the Uganda Police Force to South Sudan under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). This deployment, flagged off on March 28, 2025, raises serious concerns given Uganda’s ongoing role in crimes against South Sudanese citizens.
The Ugandan government has continuously engaged in destabilizing activities within South Sudan, including human rights violations and military interventions that undermine peace efforts. Reports have also emerged of Uganda’s use of chemical weapons and other unlawful tactics, posing a direct threat to the security and sovereignty of South Sudan. Given this history, Uganda’s participation in UNMISS compromises the neutrality and credibility of the peacekeeping mission.
The SPLM-IO leadership calls upon the United Nations to immediately review and revoke Uganda’s involvement in UNMISS. We urge the international community to ensure that peacekeeping forces consist of neutral and credible actors who genuinely support South Sudan’s stability and reconciliation process. Allowing Uganda to participate in UNMISS not only endangers South Sudanese citizens but also undermines the mission’s core objective of fostering peace.
We stand firm in our commitment to protecting the rights and sovereignty of the South Sudanese people. We will not remain silent as Uganda continues its harmful influence under the guise of peacekeeping. The statement from office of Hon Reath Muoch Tang . PM and Acting Chairperson , National Committee on Foreign Relations , SPLM-IO
