Upper Nile, South Sudan – February 28, 2025 – The South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) successfully repelled an ambush on a defense riverine convoy in Nyathor village, along the Sobat River in Doma Payam, Ulang County.
According to SSPDF Spokesperson Major General Lul Ruai Koang, the attack was carried out by a combined force of SPLA-IO fighters and armed youth from Cie-Lang, using heavy weaponry, including anti-tank systems. SSPDF riverine units responded with overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers to flee.
Following the confrontation, SSPDF forces continued their mission to rotate troops in Nasir town, Nasir County.
The SSPDF command expressed gratitude to the Lou-Nuer White Army and Nyirol County Commissioner Hon. Bol Makuei for their warm reception of SSPDF forces at Dini and Cuil villages.
The SSPDF has once again called on the SPLA-IO and affiliated militias to cease hostilities, reaffirming that riverine units will only engage in self-defense if provoked.
