South Sudan is a country at the mercy of conmen. Here is why, the Co-President who doubles as Vice President of South Sudan for Economic Cluster, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, has found himself entwined in a network of sham woven by buccaneers posing as economic experts and political strategists.
Topping the list of these con artists are professor Jok Madut Jok, self-proclaimed economist Diing Akoi Nyuon, and the mysterious Dau Achuoth. These personalities have manipulated Bol Mel, making him fall for their tricks as he parted ways with a huge amount of money under the fabrication of bribing the United States administration to lift sanctions against Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel himself and the economic sanctions against the Republic of South Sudan including a claim of lifting Arms Embargo.
2. Scheme disguised as expertise
These three conmen have beyond extracting resources from Dr. Bol Mel set themselves for important positions within the Office of the Vice President for the Economic Cluster.
According to their arrangement, Prof. Jok Madut Jok now eyes an advisory role, Diing Akoi Nyuon aims at becoming the Executive Director, while Dau Achuoth is angling for protocol responsibilities.
Their intended infiltration under the facade of expertise is truly a coverup for their greater scheme, which is to amass wealth at the expense of the country’s economic stability. It is true that Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel poorly delivered an ambiguous economic reforms statement recently. What he delivered on the screen last week according to reliable sources is the handiwork of Diing Akoi Nyuon, whose only qualification seems to be his ability to construct baroque consummate lies in an attempt to exploit the Vice President’s trusted surrounding and woo him with falsehood.
On the other hand, Prof. Jok Madut Jok has taken it upon himself to openly defend Bol Mel, through his articles that he posts on his Facebook page or share in WhatsApp groups.
Through these, he framed Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel as a reformer with grand agenda that will alleviate South Sudan from economic slump. He does this because he has ensured that his personal interests have been safeguarded. He has even vowed to rally his community, Apuk and other communities inside Gogrial in defense of Bol Mel; already making lordly promises to neutralize perceived threats like Gen. Lual Wek Guem (Maroldit), should the need arise.
Use of American citizenship as an exploitation tool
It goes without saying that Prof. Jok Madut Jok, Diing Akoi Nyuon, and Dau Achuoth have always used their American citizenship to gratify themselves and scam a number of South Sudanese leaders. Dau’s top victim is Mama Rebecca de Mabior that he lied to over the years that she was the American chosen president of the Republic of South Sudan.
Still, these three have demonstrated excessive courage of even claiming to be the only experienced facilitators who can introduce American economic experts and expertise to South Sudan. IN A NUTSHELL, THEIR REAL AGENDA IS FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION.
They have made lavish assertions about being able to lift U.S. sanctions through backdoor dealings. In essence, their claims are just empty promises that serve as camouflage for their personal enrichment scheme. Dr. Bol Mel, a man who rose with proclamation of a promising economic reforms, has now become a dummy in the hands of tested manipulators. His failure to recognize the dangerous company he keeps could spell disaster for South Sudan.
With these three untrustworthy figures running the Economic Cluster, the country risks falling deeper into economic mismanagement and corruption.Looming cartelism that puts a nation at risk This trio and their newly captured patron, represent the next wave of corruption in the Republic of South Sudan. They are forming a nucleus of cartelism whose impact could be more devastating than the current networks of looters (Kur Ajing, Bol Mel, Makiir Gai, Adut Kiir and Bibi Ali) who have debilitated the country’s economic.
These three would be more hazardous to the economy as they can smash it including the mere economic potential because they are educated, dangerously unpatriotic, all have homes abroad and with objective of getting rich quick.
Their modus operandi is clear; they are presenting themselves as experts to secure high-level government positions, then siphon state resources and finally, insulate themselves using influence, state machinery and misinformation. As citizens of this beloved country, we must remain watchful while demanding accountability from our leaders.
The presence of these opportunists closer to Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel who is at the heart of the economic decision-making is a direct threat to economic stability and the national security. With humility, we urge Dr. Bol Mel to wake up from this illusion of reform and identify that he is being used. If not so, history will remember him not as a savior of the economy but as a man who empowered the next extraordinary robbery of South Sudan’s resources.
This country cannot afford another association of looters camouflaging as technocrats. Now is the time of identifying these fraudulent actors and prevent them from further undermining the country’s flimsy economic framework.
