The intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) strongly condemns the ongoing disarmament exercise in Upper Nile State, which is being carried out by non-unified forces .This uncoordinated and unilateral action threatens peace and escalating tensions among communities.
Disarmament is critical step toward lasting security, but it must be conducted in a fair, transparent, and cooperative manner.
The current process undermines the Revitalized peace Agreement and creates mistrust among signatory parties, we urge the government of South Sudan to immediately cease this exercise and instead prioritize the formation of unified forces that represent all parties to the peace deal.
IGAD calls on all stakeholder to respect the peace agreement and work together toward a peaceful and inclusive security transitions. South Sudan must focus on fostering unity. Not division. The path to lasting peace lies in cooperation, dialogue, and adherence to the agreements made for the nation .
We stand in solidarity with the people of South Sudan and reaffirm our commitment to supporting genuine peace efforts, disarmament must be done the right way -with consensus, coordination and the full implementation of the peace process.
