The leader of the Opposition group, the Real-SPLM, Gen Pagan Amum Oketch has been dismissed by his party council members over allegations including corruption, nepotism and what they described as dictatorial leadership.
In a letter seen by this publication, the members accused Gen Amum of undermining the establishment of the organization structures, streamlining of the policies, strategies and programmes and that his rebellion was only informed by personal sentiments and hatred towards political opponents such as President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The group also faulted their chairman for unilaterally taking the decision to join and taking up the leadership of the recently formed United People’s Alliance (UPC), a group of opposition parties such as SSUF/A, SSPM and NAS-RCC that formed an alliance in negotiations with the Juba government at the Tumaini Initiative Talks in Nairobi, but a move his party members called a deviation from the principles of the Real-SPLM.
Also dismissed along with the former SPLM Strong man is Dr Akech Koch, the Acting Secretary General of the Real-SPLM whom they accused of being a despot of Pagan, and using his position to “Terrorise the Movement Cadres”.
The leadership Council that took the decision to disown Pagan Amum and Dr Akech said the dismissed individuals have ceased to represent the party in any official dealings including representing the party at the talks and mobilization of funds.
Gen Pagan Amum who solely formed the party that has members like Gen Oyay Deng Ajak has yet to comment on the move by his party to disown him.
It is also not clear how this move will affect the Tumaini Talks in Nairobi where Pagan Amum is a key member of the opposition in the negotiations with the government.
