The leadership of the United People’s Alliance (UPA) wishes to inform our supporters, citizens, and the regional and international community that, regrettably, the government of South Sudan has once again decided to walk out of the Tumaini Initiative.
The government delegation’s negative, obstructive, and anti-Tumaini behavior demonstrates a lack of commitment to achieving peace for the people of South Sudan. It further reflects their inability to grasp what is necessary to rescue the country from imminent collapse and total disintegration.
Despite this setback, UPA remains more determined than ever to bring about sustainable peace, the rule of law, and democracy. If the government were truly serious about negotiations, peace talks would have continued, and progress could have been made toward a lasting resolution.
UPA also commends Kenya, IGAD, and the Community of Sant’Egidio for their unwavering commitment to realizing peace in South Sudan. We encourage the people of South Sudan to remain resilient and hopeful during these difficult times—peace will prevail.
