In a statement from the office of the Spokesperson of the South Sudan People’s Movement (SSPM), Cde Bush Akech Chol, as seen by The Juba Mirror News Desk, the following was stated:
“I am writing to address the letter circulating on various social media platforms, written by Mr. Joseph Makuer Anyieth, who claims to have resigned from the South Sudan People’s Movement/Army (SSPM/A) and the United People’s Alliance. First, it is important to make it absolutely clear to the people of South Sudan that Mr. Joseph Makuer was once a member of the SSPM/A for only two months before being dismissed from the movement for exhibiting unpatriotic behavior, which was contrary to the objectives and vision of the SSPM/A.
Last year, Mr. Makuer made several attempts, through various channels, to be reinstated into the South Sudan People’s Movement/Army as an individual, not as part of a political entity. The Political Bureau reviewed his request, accepted it, and re-admitted him solely as Mr. Joseph Makuer Anyieth—without a secretary, a request letter, or the inclusion of any soldiers, let alone the alleged 21,000 troops he claims to have brought into the SSPM/A.
The claim of over 21,000 soldiers attributed to him is entirely false. These troops belong to the SSPM/A under the leadership of its Chairman and Commander-in-Chief, Gen. Stephen Buay Rolnyang. Mr. Makuer became aware of these forces only when he was oriented to the movement’s principles and programs.
For this reason, I call on all patriotic members of the South Sudan People’s Movement to remain committed to the cause of liberation and to not be distracted by such propaganda, which appears to be designed purely to attract public attention.”
