In the statement from the office Spokesperson of SPLA-IO Western Equatoria state Major Costa Joseph Aburida accuses the SSPDF:
“The Peoples Defend (SSPDF) attacked SPL-IO forces in Kubri Boo around 11:00 AM.
On 5th January 2025, the South Sudan Peoples Defend SSPDF attacked the territory of the SPLA-IO in Kurbi Boo. One person was killed, and two others were injured on our side. As for the South Sudan Peoples Defend SSPDF, we don’t know what happened to them.
The SSPDF cannot just enter into SPLA-IO territory in the name of removing a checkpoint. Meanwhile, they have different plans of attacking SPL-IO forces.
Again, yesterday early in the morning, 11th January 2025, the same force of South Sudan Peoples Defend (SSPDF) attacked our military bases, injuring one person, and they were repulsed.
Our forces are committed to peace and remain at our location to act in self-defense while waiting for the second batch to go for training.
I am calling upon R-ARCSS Granters to intervene. Several times SSPDF had attacked SPLA-IO forces in Western Equatoria state.”
