JUBA, South Sudan, Dec. 9 — President Salva Kiir enacted significant leadership changes Monday ay, reshuffling South Sudan’s military, security, and economic sectors. The appointments and dismissals are viewed as part of efforts to bolster stability and address governance issues.
Gen. Santino Deng Wol was removed from his position as Army Chief of Defense Forces, with Paul Nang Majok appointed as his replacement. Atak Santino Majak was relieved as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs, succeeded by Santino Deng Wol.
In law enforcement, Gen. Atem Marol Biar was dismissed as Inspector General of Police (IGP), and Abraham Peter Manyuat was appointed to the role. Economic leadership also saw a shake-up, as Johnny Ohisa was named the new Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, replacing Garang Alic.
The government has not provided specific reasons for these high-profile changes, which highlight President Kiir’s focus on strengthening governance amidst ongoing challenges in South Sudan.
