JUBA, Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024—President Salva Kiir Mayardit urged the restructured Government mediation team for the Tumaini Peace Initiative to actively engage with non-signatories to the 2018 peace agreement. In a meeting held in Juba, Kiir emphasized the importance of securing lasting peace through dialogue.
Minister of Cabinet Affairs Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro announced that arrangements are finalized for the team to meet holdout groups in Kenya this week, jump-starting negotiations with renewed vigor. These efforts align with President Kiir’s directive to return with a comprehensive peace plan, paving the way for sustainable stability ahead of the nation’s 2026 elections.
“This mission is crucial for consolidating peace and ensuring a future of stability for our people,” Kiir said, expressing optimism for meaningful progress in the talks.
