JUBA, South Sudan — President Salva Kiir Mayardit inaugurated the 8th Governor’s Forum Monday, urging leaders and stakeholders to strengthen efforts for peace and economic development in South Sudan. The week-long forum gathers governors from all 10 states, chief administrators from three administrative areas, international organizations, UN agencies, and the diplomatic community to foster national cohesion and address key challenges.
In his opening remarks, Kiir emphasized unity and collaboration as essential for overcoming national challenges. “Lasting peace requires collective action and meaningful dialogue at all levels of government,” he said. The president reaffirmed his dedication to restoring peace, citing his recent restructuring of the government’s delegation for the Tumaini peace initiative in Nairobi to expedite negotiations.
The forum, themed “Forging Sustainable Peace: Committed to the Extended R-ARCSS Transition,”serves as a platform for leaders to strategize on rebuilding the nation. Kiir urged governors and administrators to focus on job creation for youth, attract investments, and promote entrepreneurship to boost state economies.
Additionally, Kiir addressed the severe flooding affecting parts of the country, calling for coordinated efforts to mitigate the crisis and support affected communities.
The Governor’s Forum aims to align leadership and stakeholders toward sustainable solutions for South Sudan’s development challenges.
