Nairobi ,Kenya Lt. Gen. Lazaro Sumbeiywo, retired, announced Monday that the Tumaini Peace Initiative talks, aimed at addressing South Sudan’s ongoing conflict, will resume on Nov. 11, 2024. In a statement obtained by The Juba Mirror, Sumbeiywo’s office referenced recent diplomatic efforts, including a Nov. 6 mission to Juba by Kenyan President William Ruto, which helped lay the groundwork for the renewed discussions.
The resumption of talks follows a joint communique from Ruto and other regional leaders, underscoring a shared commitment to peace in South Sudan.
The upcoming negotiations, organized by the High-Level Mediation team, aim to foster agreement among stakeholders with an ambitious goal of reaching a conclusive settlement within two weeks.
Sumbeiywo emphasized the need for focused dialogue and cooperation, urging all parties to work within the proposed time frame to bring stability and unity to South Sudan
