General Akol Koor Kuc, former Director General of the Internal Security Bureau (ISB), has expressed “little disappointment” after his appointment as Governor of Warrap State was unexpectedly revoked by President Salva Kiir on Wednesday evening.
In a letter of appreciation to the President, General Akol acknowledged the honor of serving under Kiir’s leadership but subtly addressed the recent decision that has stirred speculation.
The letter, titled “Letter of Appreciation to H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit,” emphasized Akol’s gratitude for the trust placed in him during his 13-year tenure as Director General of the ISB, one of South Sudan’s most critical security organs. He credited Kiir’s mentorship and support for guiding him through his responsibilities within the agency.
“It was an honour to serve under your Comradeship in one of the most sensitive and important institutions in the country,” Akol wrote, noting that his accomplishments in the position were achieved through the President’s leadership.
However, the tone shifted as Akol reflected on his brief appointment to Warrap State’s governorship, a role that was soon rescinded. “Despite my little disappointment following my recent appointment to the Gubernatorial position as Governor of Warrap State, its subsequent revocation and the ensuing rumours flying around, I want to assure the public that I am one of those cadres trained, tested, committed and loyal to the Revolution,” he explained.
General Akol’s comments come amid increasing speculation about why his gubernatorial appointment was withdrawn. While some sources suggest internal political dynamics, Akol remained firm in his loyalty to President Kiir and the principles of the Revolution, reiterating that he would continue to support Kiir’s leadership regardless of the setback.
“One of the basic principles of the cadres of the Revolution is that a cadre is the first to attack and the last to withdraw. We are still at the phase of being attacked as a Revolution and therefore I will be the last to withdraw,” he wrote, underscoring his commitment to the country’s future and his revolutionary ideals.
In closing, General Akol expressed his “sincere gratitude and steadfastness” to President Kiir, reinforcing his dedication to South Sudan’s political stability and progress.
General Akol Koor Kuc’s tenure as the Director General of the ISB was marked by significant challenges, but his long-standing relationship with President Kiir has remained intact. Despite his disappointment over the gubernatorial revocation, Akol’s message was one of continued loyalty and service to the nation.
