There are only citizens in continental Africa who don’t know their rights and obligations, and those are none other than the South Sudanese people. These people are demoralized and frightened; they have no hope of a better tomorrow, and their leaders are so corrupt to the point that they have squared all the resources and mortgaged the future of the Nation’s generation.
Since 2005, the South Sudanese leaders have prioritized looting the Nation’s resources for their fulfillment, and this was done by creating frictions among the tribal communities, clans, and families, and eventually led to the civil war that resulted in the death of half million citizens and collapsed of the social fabric of society, relationship that was built for hundreds of years were destroyed overnight because of leadership failure.
The SPLM leadership under Salva Kiir Mayardit had taken advantage of the poor population of South Sudan; Kiir had used regional Bahr El Ghazal, Dinka as a tribe, then within those categories, he catered to the family members and friends, leaving behind the rest of his fellows countrymen. Kiir became more corrupt than Garang, who he accused in 2004 in a Rumbek meeting when Salva Kiir and Dr. John Garang were deadlocked in the movement’s internal dispute.
Kiir said, “There are people who have huge houses and bank accounts overseas and don’t care about South Sudan, so he doesn’t know what kind of country we want to build. However, it turned out that Salva Kiir Mayardit became the most corrupt human being. Under his leadership, people stole with impunity, and he never persecuted anyone he went as far as to beg the people who had stolen Billions of dollars from his government to return some money. He would decide what he should give back to the thieves of the public funds; it is like Salva Kiir had owned the country, and therefore, he is the only person who could decide who deserves what.
