As a member of Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM), I write to address a matter of importance that has recently come to light in regard to the extension of December 2024 election by the peace partners to 24 months.
Our respected Amb. John A. Duku has made fallacious blames against our SG. Peter Lam Both. The call for resignation of secretary general should not had been prompted by the extension of the election. Based on ambassador statement “the election should not had been extended because the SPLM had conducted rallies, spent money and endorsed the Chairman and His Excellency Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit as a flag bearer for 2024 election”. He continues by saying that, “the extension of the election was done based on the interest of IO and the oppositions had an upper hand against SPLM because the weak negotiations done by SG. Peter Lam and Cdr. Santino Malek”.
While Amb. John had sadly shunned the fact; I believe our leaders of SPLM have had met and discussed the way forward before meeting with peace partners. The unfounded accusations directed towards our esteemed Secretary General that he has failed our party during the negotiation for the extension of the December 2024 election is false. To put it precisely, these blames are not only false, but they also stem from a place of desperation to seek attention rather than truth.
The Secretary General has worked tirelessly to advance our collective goals and foster unity in our political party. He has travelled10 States and Administrative areas to engage the populaces to participate in our party decision marking. The number of newly recruited members to join SPLM had significantly increase under the wise leader of SG. Peter Lam Both and Chairman Cdr. Salva Kiir Mayardit. Therefore, to undermine his effort with baseless claims is not just unfair; it is detrimental to the progress we strive to achieve as a party.
It is widely known that Amb. John A. Duku has been redundant for years without assignment, making this unnecessary noise is brewed out of frustration and disappointment. Having senior party member feeding the public with cheap political points is a damaging to the reputation of our party, and he should base his judgments on facts and not on speculation or personal agendas.
In moments of uncertainty, we must come together to support one another and to uplift our leaders, rather than tearing them down. Let us focus on constructive dialogue and work towards solutions that benefit us all. Spreading false accusations only serves to erode trust and distract us from our shared goals for our party.
