JUBA, South Sudan – Political parties in South Sudan, including SPLM-IG, SPLM-IO, SSOA, OPP, and FDs, signed a comprehensive report on key provisions of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and submitted it to President Salva Kiir for final decisions regarding the upcoming elections. This report, presented by the High-Level Standing Committee on Roadmap and the National Transitional Committee, outlines both accomplished tasks and those pending implementation, as South Sudan evaluates whether to proceed with elections or extend the transitional period.
The leadership of these committees, working with electoral and security bodies such as the National Constitution Review Commission, the National Bureau of Statistics, the National Elections Commission, and various security mechanisms, found that several critical tasks remain unfulfilled under the peace agreement. As a result, the Presidency will review the recommendations and decide whether elections will be held in December 2024 or if the transitional government will be extended.
The final decision is expected soon as the presidency prepares to meet in the coming days to deliberate on the report.
