BOR, South Sudan, August 30, 2024 – Residents of Jonglei and professional colleagues bade farewell to Maj. Gen. Elia Costa Faustino, who is stepping down as Police Commissioner after a transformative three-year tenure.
Gen. Faustino, praised for his exceptional leadership, led the police force through a significant reduction in insecurity and fostered a stronger sense of unity within the force.
Jonglei State Minister for Local Government and Law Enforcement, Simon Hoth Dual, lauded Gen. Faustino for his unwavering professionalism and integrity.
“Maj. Gen. Elia Costa is a professional who knows how to do his job. We commend him for his work since he arrived in Jonglei State three years ago,” Dual said. “He has cooperated with the people of Jonglei State, and whenever there were orders from the government, he took them seriously.”
Dual added that Gen. Faustino’s leadership was instrumental in the state’s progress, exemplifying the true spirit of service and dedication.
Expressing his gratitude, Faustino thanked the people of Jonglei for their warm reception and support.
Originally from Western Equatoria, Faustino described Jonglei as his second home, emphasizing the significance of the farewell as a symbol of national unity.
“From the reception I received on day one, to the cooperation from the people of Jonglei, I am very happy. It was my first time in Bor, and you welcomed me as if I was someone you knew before. I never expected such a level of cooperation and kindness,” he said.
Faustino will assume his new role as Lakes State Police Commissioner, succeeding Maj. Gen. John Baak.
