MALAKAL, South Sudan, August 30, 2024—Maj. Gen. Tuding Yak Rom and Maj. Gen. Pal Gatkuoth Monywach, who recently defected from the SPLM/SPLA (IO), have pledged to rejoin the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) along with over 3,000 of their soldiers. The announcement was made today in Molbok, Renk County, Upper Nile State.
The two generals, now under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Commander in Chief of the SSPDF, committed to working towards peace and unity in Longechuk County, Upper Nile State, and across South Sudan.
The generals expressed their gratitude to Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, who facilitated their transition to the SSPDF. They also thanked Maj. Gen. Abraham Dut, Commander of Division 1, and Maj. Gen. Tut Jock Hoth, Division 8 Operations Commander, for their support.
Hon. Tulith Koang Diew and Hon. Gatwech Koryom Nyak, leaders of the Reang community within the SPLM, were also recognized for their role in uniting the generals from the Chie Reang clan, fostering cooperation for the benefit of the Gajaak Nuer and Upper Nile State.
