RUMBEK, August 22, 2024 — The commissioners of Wulu, Cueibet, and Yirol West counties in Lakes State were sworn into office Tuesday at the Lakes State General Secretariat in Rumbek. The ceremony was led by Governor Rin Tueny Mabor.
Among those taking the oath were two commissioners from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) and one from the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA). Governor Mabor emphasized the importance of peace and the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement. “Our first mission is peace in the eight counties, all the payams and the bomas,” he said, highlighting that the peace agreement is essential for South Sudan’s unity and the upcoming December elections.
Former Deputy National Minister for Higher Education Gabriel Kuc Abiei urged the commissioners to collaborate effectively. Speaking on behalf of the group, Wulu Commissioner Justin Majok Manyiel expressed gratitude to Governor Mabor and President Salva Kiir, noting that the appointments were made in the interest of the community. He outlined their priorities as addressing economic challenges, maintaining peace, and fostering development in Lakes State.
