The leadership of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Youth Union (NBGS-YU) has collectively resigned in response to an order issued by South Sudan National Youth Union (SSNYU) Chairman Taban Paride Lakosmoi on August 5, 2024. The order, which reinstated the NBGS-YU leadership, was initially seen as an effort to resolve politically motivated controversies. However, five days later, the NBGS-YU leaders criticized the order as unconstitutional, stating it would undermine the democratic achievements within the youth community.
Despite their concerns, the NBGS-YU leadership has accepted the order for the sake of unity and peace, announcing their resignation to allow the State Minister of Culture, Youth & Sports to appoint a Preparatory Committee. They have pledged their support to the new committee for organizing timely elections.
