NIMULE – A South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) officer was killed, and 18 others were injured, in a road accident on the Juba highway near Nimule town, Aug. 14.
The deceased, identified as Capt. Peter Mayol, 47, died after an Eco Bus Company vehicle traveling from Kampala to Juba veered off the road and struck a group of soldiers on Sunday, Aug. 11. Nimule Director of Traffic Police Maj. Elliza Bil Mapwor stated that the bus driver was arrested and is being held in Nimule Prison.
The injured soldiers were taken to Nimule Hospital, where three remain in critical condition, according to Medical Director Silvester Nyuma. Thirteen others have been treated and discharged, while one patient with severe chest pains was referred to Juba Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
