AUGUST 14, 2024, JUBA CITY — South Sudan is in mourning following the death of Lt. Gen. Bior Ajang Duot, a prominent leader and former Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF). Gen. Bior, also known as Bior Asuod, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at his residence in Juba due to cardiac arrest. He was 77 years old.
Ambassador John Samuel Bwogo, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, confirmed the news and expressed deep sorrow over the untimely death of Gen. Bior. “The honorable minister, deputy minister, undersecretary, and the entire staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, both at headquarters and missions abroad, announce with heavy hearts the untimely death of Ambassador Bior Ajang,” Bwogo said in a statement. “He died yesterday (Tuesday) due to cardiac arrest.”
Born on Jan. 1, 1947, in Kongor, Twic East County, Jonglei State, Gen. Bior was a key figure in South Sudan’s liberation struggle. His contributions were instrumental in the nation’s journey to independence.
In 2015, Gen. Bior transitioned from his role as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs to serve as a First Class Ambassador and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. He was also the chairperson of the Twic East Community Association, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his community and country.
Gen. Bior’s legacy is one of resilience and dedication to the sovereignty and development of South Sudan. His passing marks the end of an era for those who knew him as a steadfast leader and advocate for his nation’s progress.
