ABUJA, Nigeria, Aug. 1, 2024 – Finance leaders from across Africa are convening here from August 1-3 for the Africa Caucus meeting. This event aims to explore intra-African trade and propose reforms to the global financial system to tackle obstacles impeding economic growth.
The Africa Caucus seeks to highlight intra-African trade as a key driver of sustainable economic development and to formulate recommendations for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank’s annual meetings in Washington, D.C., scheduled for October. Key attendees include Dr. James Alic Garang, Governor of the Central Bank of South Sudan, and Agok Makur, Deputy Minister of Finance.
This year’s meeting occurs amid increasing calls for a reassessment of the global financial system, with African economic leaders arguing that the current structure disproportionately benefits developed economies, often at the expense of developing countries facing debt crises.
