On Monday night, a delegation of 62 pastors and 8 bishops from the troubled Jonglei state arrived in Eldoret with the goal of uniting the divided Christians in the region. The division among the communities in Jonglei state living in Eldoret has led to the existence of multiple churches, each associated with specific communities and clans. Due to serious mistrust among religious leaders and communities in the area, returning to the main church is not an option.
Rt. Rev. Gabriel Thuch Agoth, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kongor, held a confidential meeting with the people of his diocese, but it did not yield any positive results. Sources informed Thejubamirror News Desk that the people have refused to return to the main church, Light House, which was founded in 2003 and is still operational.
Archbishop Anur Ayom of Jonglei is also among the spiritual leaders who arrived to hold a consultative meeting with their communities and faithful Christians from the ethnically and religiously divided Jonglei state.
The Rt. Rev. Bishop of Wernyol, Gabriel Kuol Garang, held a consultative meeting with the people of his diocese in order to promote unity and find a way back to the main church, Light House. However, the youth from his diocese refused to obey him or heed his advice.
The other bishops of Duk have not disclosed the agenda of their meeting with their communities. Meanwhile, after further discussions with Christians and leaders, there was disagreement in Nyuak diocese under Bishop Manyok, according to an eyewitness who declined to be named.
The conflict and divisions in the church began when renowned Pastor John Ayuel Wuor had a conflict with the youth in the church administration. Some of the youth were unhappy with Pastor John Ayuel’s seriousness towards church issues. The youth were supported by a different group and victimized the veteran Pastor John Ayuel Wuor, who is also described as a member of a minority group. That is why his administration is sabotaged by youth in Eldoret, Kenya.
