Clashes between South Sudanese refugees have resulted in the deaths of several individuals and injuries to others in Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement. The violent clashes occurred between the Anyuak and Nuer communities, both originating from South Sudan. This week, numerous individuals lost their lives and sustained injuries as a result of the conflicts in the camp.
The involvement and restrictions implemented by the Kenyan government have had an impact on the minority Anyuak group, who have fallen into the hands of the Nuer majority. Both the government and UN agencies have enforced limitations on movement within and outside of Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement Area.
These restrictions were put into effect immediately following the conflict between the two South Sudanese communities, which led to further casualties and injuries in both Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement Area.
Kakuma Refugee Camp is the largest refugee camp, accommodating individuals from over 14 different nationalities. It predominantly hosts South Sudanese, Somali, Ethiopian, Rwandan, and Sudanese individuals who have been affected by conflict and violence in their home countries.
