The member of Parliament at the Warrap State Reconstituted Legislative Assembly under SPLM IO ticket , Garang Marou Akot on Thursday evening resigned from Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in opposition (SPLM-IO) under the leadership of the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny and declare his allegiance to the ruling Party, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) under President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Garang said he returned to SPLM party with at least 53 people. He accused SPLM of lack of commitment to democratic processes, Tribalism and losing of party’s direction among other reasons.
“Since I joined the SPLM-IO because of democratic principle which is currently in vain, 1 decided to quit the visionless party that is responsible for the suffering of the people of South Sudan and join the mighty party SPLM,” Garang said in the statement read out Thursday evening to the reporters in Juba.
“In reference to the above-mentioned subject, I Hon. Garang Marou Akot Manyuol, a member of Warrap State reconstituted transitional Legislative Assembly, a member of Warrap State SPLM-IO liberation Council and State secretary for student league, do hereby declaring my defection from SPLM-I0 and declaring allegiances to SPLM with effect from the date of its signature,” he said.
The leadership of SPLM IO in Warrap State were not reach to comment on accusations leveled against the party.
In April, 7 senior members of SPLM IO in Warrap State led the defection of 150 members back to SPLM. However, Chaguor Ater Bol, a member of of the TNLA representing Warrap State denied the allegation and told reporters in Juba that, the party came to know that only seven members are confirmed to have defected to the SPLM Party.
