Former General Chief of Staff, Gen Oyai Deng Ajak, has accused South Sudanese President Kiir Mayardit of destroying the visions of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A). In an interview with this journalist, Gen Ajak expressed his disappointment with the current state of affairs in South Sudan
According to Gen Ajak, President Kiir has destroyed the SPLM/A in his four years as General Chief of Staff. He described this period as “painful and tough,” and revealed that he was accused five times of attempting to stage a coup against President Kiir. While the President denies these accusations, rumors of a coup attempt continue to circulate.
Gen Ajak revealed that during his time as General Chief of Staff, he and his team were supported by the United States, and had created different training programs across the country. They were also the first to purchase T72 tanks in Africa. Gen Ajak intentionally told Khartoum that if they did not implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), they would use these tanks to fight back.
The former General Chief of Staff also expressed his intention to mobilize thousands of ex-SPLM/A soldiers from different tribes who have been neglected by the current regime. He stated that he has forces inside South Sudan, and that they will fight to liberate the people of South Sudan from a government that does not care for its people.
Gen Ajak emphasized that age is not a barrier to joining the movement for change. He stated that he will be like others who have joined the movement in their old ages .
The situation in South Sudan remains tense, with political tensions and conflict continuing to escalate. The accusations made by Gen Ajak against President Kiir highlight the deep divisions within the country, and the urgent need for a government that prioritizes the needs of its people.
