On a memorable evening, Mama Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior hosted a dinner in honour of the Bright Stars basketball team. The team had recently achieved remarkable milestone by becoming the first African champions. The event brought together esteemed guests, including Vice President for economic cluster, H.E Dr James Wani Igga, Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, H.E Gen. Taban Deng Gai, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs & Disaster Management. Hon. Albino Akol Atak. Also in attendance was Hon. Stephen Par Kuol, Minister of Peace Building and Luol Deng.The guests were welcomed by Mama Rebecca as the enticing aroma of delicacies rented the air, creating an atmosphere of anticipation. The tables were elegantly set, adorned with beautiful floral arrangements, symbolizing celebration and accomplishment.The dinner commenced with a heartfelt welcome speech by Mama Rebecca, who praised the Bright Stars for their outstanding achievement in putting South Sudan on the map of African sports. She highlighted the importance of unity, determination, and perseverance in their journey to success. The guests, inspired by her words, applauded enthusiastically.Soon after, Mama Rebecca’s culinary creations were presented to the guests. From traditional South Sudanese delicacies to international favourites—the menu catered to diverse palates. The event also served as a testament to the unwavering support and commitment of Mama Rebecca in organizing such remarkable occasions.The following day, I spoke to Mr. Karbino Awad Pieka, the Director of Youth & Sports in the office of the vice president for Gender, Youth and Sport, he provided an update on the recent achievements of the national sports team. According to Karbino, the team emerged victorious in matches against China, Philippines, and Angola. However, they also faced two defeats against Puerto Rico and Serbia. Overall, the team won four out of the six games, enabling them to secure the number one position in Africa.
In his statement, Karbino emphasized the team’s dedication to their nation. He stated that the players exhibited a great sense of patriotism throughout the matches. He further highlighted the fact that though South Sudan is a young nation, its people possess immense skills and talent.Karbino expressed his gratitude for the support received from various individuals and entities.
He acknowledged the contribution of senior advisor Gen. Kuol Manyang Juk, Vice President for Gender, Youth & Sport H.E Mama Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, and President H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit.
