A prominent political activist and government critic Dr Peter Biar has emerged with a new political party and announced his intention to form a new political party just days after resigning from the ruling party, the SPLM.
Biar announced on his Twitter page that his new party, Revive South Sudan Party (RSSP), would offer South Sudanese alternative from the country’s bigger political outfits.
“The 2024 elections provide South Sudanese with the opportunity for revival and the chance to realize the aspirations of the liberation struggle,” he stated, adding it is the right time for South Sudan to choose the right leaders and revive their country through the upcoming elections.
He argued that the current situation requires the South Sudanese transcend the boundaries of tribe and other social classes and unite for a better country.
“The RSSP is not merely a political movement; it is a collective summons from the depths of our patriotic hearts, echoing across the plains and mountains, reaching every village and town of our great country,” he said.
Biar promised that the leadership of the new party would focus on effective governance.
“We are steadfast in our commitment to foster good and effective governance, nurturing a transparent and accountable system that upholds the rights and aspirations of every citizen,” he said.
He added that the new party would build a government that serves people with integrity and fairness; where corruption finds no refuge and the rule of law reigns supreme.
“Grounded in our unwavering commitment to build a robust and inclusive economy, we promise to sow the seeds of opportunity and prosperity, ensuring quality education and skills development for all, making every dream achievable,” he stated.
Last week, Dr Biar announced his resignation from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) alleging the ruling party had fallen short of living up to the vision.
Efforts to get comments from the SPLM secretariat regarding the resignation were not successful, as several calls remained unanswered.
“With an unwavering devotion to our beloved South Sudan and the ideals that elevate us, I am compelled to formally resign from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM),” Biar writes in a letter dated July 28, 2023, as SPLM Chairperson.
Biar, a controversial self-exiled figure, has been at loggerheads with the government of South Sudan over his controversial remarks about the regime.
