JUBA, JULY 30, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday night issued a presidential decree sacking the deputy governor of his home-state of Warrap Debora Odul Okeich.
In another decree, the president named Aluel Garang Garang, locally known as Aluel Messi, as the new deputy governor of the restive state.
Aluel is the wife of controversial former humanitarian affairs minister Peter Mayen Majongdit who is also the leader of the opposition consortium Other Political Parties (OPP).
In separate decrees, Kiir also fired the state finance minister Madut Tong Akol, along with the chairperson of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), Gabriel Anyar Madut.
He cited his powers granted under South Sudan’s transitional constitution and the revitalized peace agreement.
HUSBAND REACTS
Aluel is a footballer and has never held any political position. In a statement, Mayen congratulated his wife, his party, and the sports family in South Sudan where Aluel comes from.
“Congratulations to my lovely wife for winning the confidence of both President and the party leadership and the entire sports family in South Sudan,” Mayen wrote on his Facebook page just shortly after his wife’s appointment.
He then thanked “the entire Mading Aweil for such a wonderful gift in our family life.”
