JUBA, APRIL 30, 2023 (THEJUBAMIRROR NEWS ) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Saturday directed the ministry of humanitarian affairs and disaster management to transport citizens retuning from Sudan to their areas of origins using boats.
Since outbreak of Sudan’s ongoing conflict two weeks ago in the capital Khartoum, thousands of South Sudanese who have been seeking refuge in the Sudan since 2013 and before having been retuning back to their country amid fears of civilians being caught in crossfire.
In a statement, the presidency said that President Kiir has directed the ministry of humanitarian affairs and disaster management during a meeting with minister Albino Akol on Saturday afternoon at the presidential palace in J1.
“President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Saturday met with the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Albino Akol Atak to deliberate on how to manage the influx of returnees coming from Sudan,” the presidency said.
Akol said in remarks to the state-own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) that “the government will evacuate people in Paloch immediately in order to decongest Paloch and Renk airport as directed by the President through a proposed action plan.”
The senior South Sudan government official further promised that his government “will control the flow of returnees in Renk by considering other means of transportation such as water transport through the Nile River.”
