JUBA, APRIL 26, 2023 (Thejubamirror News. ) – South Sudan parliament has lifted the immunity of at least seven of its members who are facing trial in local courts in Juba.
Thejubamirror News Desk learned that the lawmakers accused are Ali Osura, Achol; Marial Deng, Simon Malual Deng, Deng Tong Kuol, Abraham Lino Akot, Juma Ali, and Joseph Ojuku.
They are accused of crimes ranging from cheating to unauthorized usage of funds.
Speaking following the lifting of the parliament on Tuesday, speaker of parliament Jemma Nunu Kumba urged the accused lawmakers to approach the court before they can turn up again for their parliamentary roles.
“Colleagues, honorable members, those who have these cases you go and immediately clear the issues and come back. These are just normal things,” she said.
“You know, sometimes there are some things we do which we don’t think it would be serious then it goes to court but the most important thing is always trying to resolve this problem either outside the court or you go and defend yourself in court if you know you have no problem.
“So, you go and handle the cases quickly and then join us,” she added.
